What is the big deal – The Red Brick Cafe – Opinion

There has been a lot of hype around Monsanto lately.  What is the big deal?  Why should we care what some big corporation is doing when it doesn’t directly affect us?monsanto  News Flash what this company is being allowed to do has a direct impact on our everyday lives and those of our children.
Monsanto has its global headquarters in St. Louis with their Canadian headquarters in Winnipeg and offices across the country.  Monsanto is most widely known for their herbicides, including Roundup.  They are also known for funding projects that involve Genetically Modified Organism.  Mansanto stands behind its research ‘to alleviate world hunger’.
This makes you wonder why GMO agribusiness companies prohibit independent research as a precondition to buy seeds, either to plant or research, without signing an end-user agreement.  The agreement explicitly forbids any form of independent research.  The end-user is strictly prohibited from examining whether genetically modified crops lead to unintended side effects either in the environment or in animals or humans.
But what it comes down to is how much you trust the food manufacturers.  If they refuse to tell you if their products contain GMOs then who do we know that we can trust?  In the end it all comes down to personal choice.  We decided to grow our own garden and swap with other gardeners who have extra of something.  This is the way that we know how it is grown, that it is fresh, and the seeds that were used.
Until next time……
